It is extremely disconcerting that a man who is our Federal Minister of State for both Science & Technology would even be in that position if he does not believe in one of the basic canons of science. He is responsible for dolling out 10's of millions of dollars to scientific organizations. It is little wonder that the Genome project is on the hit list. Obviously we have no need to study "God's Road Map". I bet beside Goodyear's bed side table is a copy of the "Intelligent Design" bible of Pandas & People. Anyone just has to read this text book that masquerades as science and I use that term as loosely as possible connected with this book to know that either our Minister of State for the very important areas of Science & Technology either believes in science or he does not. Not made up science but excepted science based on rigorous standards of methodolgy.
If he does not he should be Minister of State for Sports.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23948057.post-61871961382691333682009-03-19T23:11:00.000-04:002009-03-19T23:11:00.000-04:00Goodyear has not been waving his beliefs around. I...Goodyear has not been waving his beliefs around. It is few disgruntled scientists who got their budgets cut, spreading an allegation without basis, that Goodyear might be a creationist. They suckered some journalists into asking Goodyear about his personal religious beliefs, but Goodyear declined the bait, rightly telling them that his personal religious beliefs were none of their damn business.

So along comes a video creationist slapping together a peurile Flintstone show suggesting that Goodyear is against science, ostensibly because of his alleged (groundless) creationist beliefs. Goodyear is being pre-judged. By those who are prejudiced.

The Globe & Mail, March 19, reported that Goodyear clearly asserted that he is a believer in the theory of evolution.

Meanwhile a video goes viral, distributed on blogs suggesting the opposite of the TRUTH and unjustly discrediting a person.Wally (old white guy) Keelernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23948057.post-67314692955453968962009-03-19T11:47:00.000-04:002009-03-19T11:47:00.000-04:00I remember interviewing a woman for a job once, an...I remember interviewing a woman for a job once, and she wore her christianity like a flag, waving it all around her and invoking the lord's name in just about every sentence.

She did not get the job, not because she was a christian but because it was clear her beliefs would get in the way of her doing her job.

That is the concern here with this politician. It has nothing to do with his particular religion.
DJOAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23948057.post-68030801564046656802009-03-18T23:32:00.000-04:002009-03-18T23:32:00.000-04:00So, Christians should not be permitted to hold off...So, Christians should not be permitted to hold office? So politicians who are Christians should be compelled to answer questions about their personal religious beliefs? What's the deal here?

Has Gary Goodyear applied his personal religious beliefs to public policy? If so, what's the evidence?

Let's say that he does believe the fantasy of a divine being, and that that divine being had a hand in making evolution happen, so what? Does that, in and of itself warrant his dismissal as Minister of Science?

Insofar as the office of the Minister of Science is concerned, is the criteria to be athiests only need apply?Wally Keelerhttp://poetency.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
