Why do they want to screw the little guy? Is there that much hatred in
the hearts and souls of those administering the hospital?

It's not that 'they' inadvertently screw the little guy by ignoring
him, but that they WANT to screw him. This goes to motivation. Do you
really believe this?

I could certainly buy the arguement that they may have been indifferent
to the little guy, but asserting that these budget cuts are motivated
by a malevolent desire (want) to screw the little guy seems a bit much.

The Province mandates a zero percent budget increase. The Province negotiates the unionized employee contracts. The Province gives a 3% wage increase. Wages and benefits are over 90% of the hospital operating budget. What can a local Board or CAO do? The screwed and left to face the music. Oh and lest we forget the deficit the former CAO left.

Mr Biron blamed the inability to balance the budget on union wages. Not his wages, nor the administrators wages, nor doctors wages but on the wages of the bulk of the staff that actually do most of the work in the hospital, cleaning staff, nurses, technicians. And to correct that misguided conception the hospital board decided to deny low-income access to Government paid health care. Seems about right. Let's make the ones who can't afford to pay, pay more.

Who sets the budget, [Mr Biron said its the Provincial Government?] Then why are they not making the decision about how to make the budget balance? And if they are is Mr Biron just the mouth piece? Why is Mr Rinaldi not making these announcements? Come on Lou, tell us you agree that the poorest of your constituents should be denied free health care.

Just image Mr. Biron saying the Board knew they were preventing not low income, but aboriginal, or black citizens from receiving services at the hospital.

Think about it for a minute.

Then ask yourself why simple poor bashing is perfectly acceptable in this community.

Is this part of Northumberland's much vaunted poverty reduction strategy? After all, if they would just die, that would reduce poverty, wouldn't it?
