No, I live in Ward 1 -downtown Port Hope. When I say we already pay for the O.P.P. I'm referring to the fact that the O.P.P. is a blanket provincial force and as such can police, arrest, spot check, investigate etc. anywhere in this province. So, if the O.P.P. wants to succeed in what is to me at least and obvious corporate takeover they'd better not be thinking of actually charging for it.

My comment to this got posted to the wrong item, my mistake. It can be found in the post about climate change, next one up.

To re-state my opinion briefly, it is that I am looking for Delanty and Thompson to show some leadership and get their committee back to work. Surely, as mayors, it is their job to make this work despite the disagreements.

Maybe they need to hire a skilled mediator to help things along, but most of all, they need the will to proceed.

But not until they've finished their very important work in Caledonia, not until Fantino has all the helicopters he wants, not until Fantino's role in the new (and second) Metro Police corruption allegation (as discovered today by the CBC) has been fully investigated, not until we've heard from the O.P.P. officer from Woodbridge re the local jewell store robbery, not until we get through the Orillia HQ voice mail to find out how it is an O.P.P. officer drove his cruiser into Rice Lake answering a call, not until....not until....

Okay. Not until we stop paying for these godamned self-glorifying media-hound cowboys in the first place. Got it? We already HAVE the O.P.P. and we're stuck with them. Not only do we not need these any more of these dolts -we need LESS. WAY LESS. Like as in NO GODAMNED O.P.P. PERIOD -thank you very much. And...for services already not provided, how about giving us some (or all) of our money back?

I do not harbour any reluctance to see either town or both policed by the OPP.

On the other hand, I am not animated against the local police. However, I do see that officers on these forces seem lack-lustre in their approach and that means they are not gaining in the "let's keep the local policing model" sweepstakes.

I feel cost will dictate that eventually the OPP will be in or some significant joint services effort will be in.

People are all nostalgic about their local boys until the burden on the tax part of their own wallet becomes onerous, which it already is, and obvious, which it does not seem to be to the majority as yet. But it's getting there.
