Wally's statements imply that he thinks he is an important figure in the lives of everyone else who frequents this blog. He seems to be under the impression that he is a main preoccupation of everyone else.

I am sure he is the main preoccupation for himself. I am equally sure he is not for others.

I have no idea who Wally is, where he lives, what he does, etc but I have formed a mental image of him from his comments on this blog which I have only been following for a few months.

My mental picture:
I assume Wally is not his real name but a self-deprecating screen name, as in, "What a Wally!"

And I have never seen anyone around Cobourg who looks like that avatar that accompany his posts.

Unemployed -- seems to have way too much time on his hands to be earning a living.

Single -- who would ever be with him? and seems to have way too much time on his hands to be involved with anyone.

Living in the basement of his parents' house, staying up until the wee hours of the morning by the strange-bluish light of a computer screen.

Not enough strong male role models in his life as he was growing up -- didn't get the corners knocked off so he never learned there are boundaries when you interact with other people, especially women, and never learned where the boundaries are.

Obsequious when dealing with people face to face in real life. Only brave enough to express disagreement when he is protected by the distance of the internet and the implacability of writing about others when they are not in the vicinity rather than having verbal conversation with them.

Unhappy with the present and so finding solace in a past that never really existed the way he remembers it but is golden in his own mind.

Very few acquaintences and no real friends. Why? -- see the previous paragraphs.

Sometimes I think I would like to meet the actual person behind this screen name. Most times I shudder to think what that would actually be like.

I know that the Wally in my mental image probably bears no resemblance to the one in real life.

You are putting words in anonymous' mouth. Anonymous did say YOU were giving tmi but not ideas. Anonymous did NOT say Anonymous was spouting ideas with the words you quoted. Nothing was said about that either way.

It is interesting that elsewhere you state that there is only one person posting all comments appearing around this blog as Anonymous but now you seem to have converted to there being more than one person or anonymice

I did more than half the household chores than my ex-wife. I supported her, student loan and all, while she went to University to get her MA, while I worked and got up every night for the middle-night-feedings of our new-born. If course, after completing her MA, she returned to Budapest with my son, saying she would only be a year, but she lied and never came back, why? because I found that I had been bankrupted -- she mismanaged my file. Oh, she had a perfect right to do what she did.

BTW, it was 1964 when I asked CDCI-West if I could take cooking in home ec. and was told I couldn't because of sexism of the day.

I don't always agree with you Deb. On this one I'm pretty much with you all the way. And I'm talking as a man who does try to do an equal share of the domestic chores and has for a lot of years. I still fail: my wife does more than half. We raised daughters. It is a long haul, trying to change centuries of cultural, economic and political barriers that are so deeply entrenched in males --and as you say females, too. My mother and my mother-in-law were ahead of where their mothers had to be. My wife is ahead of that. My daughters are ahead of my wife. Now, we all begin again with the raising of granddaughters. Each change is both significant and a frustratingly small increment. And slow! We have to wear away at it like water dripping on stone: eventually it gives way.

Before I get buried by disgruntled males here, let me clarify what I edited out of my little rant for space reasons before I passed it on to BB for posting.

It's not like I think men get a free ride. Our society puts both sexes into their little pink or blue boxes at birth. Neither are encouraged to climb out of it. Just ask any man who wants to be a figure skater, or any woman who wants to be a firefighter. It ain't easy.

Bottom line: I don't blame men for women being sold a bill of goods. We did it to ourselves, with a lot of help from the mass media, religion, etc etc. And then there's biology.

Both sexes need to climb out of the boxes if we want the freedom to be whoever we really are.
