RE Doug L's comments about replacing one Liberal with another - I believe it is open knowledge that two "top" Liberal organizers are running Mr. Brocanier's campaign organization. I believe they are the same ones who run Loo and Kim Rudd.

I tend to hold the opinion that your character is reflective of the company you keep... this would not be, in my humble view, a good reflection of the character of Mr. Brocanier to be associated with these characters!

At least with Martin Partridge, he is his own person.

If I had any hesitation at all in exposing myself and my family to active politics, it was because of the anonymous nastiness which pervades certain segments of Cobourg society.

Obviously Anon has an ax to grind re Martin. Yes, Martin has strong opinions, he also has very informed opinions, which he methodically researches and forms before simply going off, a welcome change from many of the voices on Council today.

I would take the informed over the uninformed any day. At least with Martin you are able to have an intelligent conversation, based on fact, not ideology, not on the ol' boys needs, but on pure fact. Due to his style, he is not always easy to work with, but while I have had experiences where I could strangle him for being a pain in the ass, I have had just as many experiences in the past where I could not believe how he came through, supported without wavering, and was just an all around solid and good human being.

Let's take a look at the current crop of politico's at ALL levels in this area and see who else we can say these words about, certainly not Loo, Norlock is off fighting for hunting day private members bills, Kimmy is knocking on something between 3000 - 7000 doors, our Mayor is the ultimate defender of the closed door ol' boys club, along with many members of his Council.

Love him or leave him, Martin is principled, analytical and fair. Something this town could use a lot of. Let's just hope that he keeps his head on straight, that is the only element that i could see being his downfall. But, as with Martin, if he is aware of a weakness, he gets rid of it quickly.

Martin Partridge is one of the most polarizing figures in this community. You either love him or hate him if you know him at all.

He is hardly going to have an easy win. Good luck jumping from citizen directly to the Mayor's chair.

I've known Martin for nearly as long as he's lived in the old Bradford house, and he's always impressed me as being both smart and sensitive, two qualities we need desperately in our mayor.

And he does dress up quite well when required, I can attest to that too.

Might even forgive him for being a liberal, I've been known to do that before.

Go Martin, you have my support for sure. Now please convince Mr. Burd to run for Council so we can have our Burd and Partridge at town hall together.

Martin has developed a fine record of taking the public side on a variety issues, as detailed in the article. His emphasis on public consultation and getting value for money in expenditures would be welcome.

For several council terms Cobourg has been making massive expenditures, and when the books are opened they may show that we have a debt problem. Martin would be the best person to handle the change of direction that may be required.

I only hope that the electorate are impressed by Martin's honesty and competence rather than being blinded by the traditionalists.

I am not sure if replacing one Liberal for another is a good idea, assuming Mr Partridge can win. I don't know Mr Brocanier's politics but I suspect it's Follower.

I would hope there is a strong slate for council of "not old white guys" next time around. We need a council that has it's eyes on the future. New blood, bring it on, and hope they have the stamina of last election's new blood.
