The GTA also swallows the majority of immigrants and it takes billions to settle them. Federal policy determines the quantity of immigrants entering Canada. However, the federal government does not provide any funding for all the immigrants to set home -- that is borne by the GTA.

The residents of the Greater Cobourg Area (CTA) get a free ride in this regard, except for a group of whiners upset about immigrants busing down from the GTA to enjoy the parks of CTA.

Speaking of stimulus money, I have just come across an article talking about how Michigan is trying to stave off road disaster in the face of vanishing cash reserves.

When it's time to make road repairs, they are converting them back to gravel. Apparently it only costs $10,000 to convert a mile of paved road into a gravel road, compared to $100,000 to re-pave it.

Interesting. When our own County Councillors start to contemplate that, we'll know we're in big trouble here too.

I think that the Town of Cobourg deserves credit for getting about $20 million in federal and provincial grants for the proposed community (?) centre, but it makes me wonder about the whole stimulus program.

For example: If the City of Toronto had received the same pro-rata allocation of stimulus funds they would have got over $2 billion for the new streetcars that they requested, but they did not receive anything. Perhaps Cobourg is lucky that we have an MP and MPP from the respective ruling parties, but I cannot see how building the community (?) centre is going to provide much economic stimulus or job creation. In the case of TO the city really needs transportation improvements, and building such an amount of transportation vehicles and related infrastructure would have had a much greater positive economic and employment effects that would also extended to other parts of Ontario.
