It's up to people like us to make sure he goes up in flames in 2010.

Now we just need Iggy to do the decent thing and resign so the Libs can annoint Bob Rae in time for the election. The general tone of The Burd Report strikes me as one of concensus-seeking -a desire to hear what others have to say and seek a solution to local issues. Kind of like the way parliament should behave on a national level. But, on this issue not only has Ben allowed me the greatest of leeway in the hurling of epithets at the prime minister ("coward" "cowardice" and all derivitives thereof) but he himself, moderator whose site bears his name, has even seen fit in the opener to call Harper a "liar".

I expect that kind of thing from me. I'm surprised when I hear it from Ben. And I urge everyone to consider the import of this, what Harper has done in insulting and infuriating ordinary (but politically astute) Canadians.

This goes beyond ranting. There's something else going on here. Something I'm not sure Harper counted on....Merklin Muffleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05850284624604652178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23948057.post-10761095843075891712009-12-31T13:39:21.174-05:002009-12-31T13:39:21.174-05:00With all due respect, Deb, I don't care if he ...With all due respect, Deb, I don't care if he shut down parliament for 5-minutes, 5-weeks or 5-years. The fact remains he stole our voice, our representation, in the highest-handed, contemptible manner. He is a lowlife with no regard whatsoever for democracy, a dictator in policy wonk's clothing.

What if within the next 5-weeks Canada is attacked -from within or without? What if The Big One hits Vancouver or a sunami engulfs Newfoundland? Parliament won't be there to deal with anything. It'll take weeks just to get everybody back in their seats. His latest prorogation is an act of contempt, contempt of parliament, contempt of democracy, contempt for you and me and contempt for the people who think they're fighting for something better. But it turns out they're not fighting for something better. They're fighting and dying in droves for a tinpot that thinks nothing of wrapping himself in the flag, wallowing in sickening patriotism -and hiding behing a woman's skirts. There is ony one other recent act of cowardice on the part of a public figure that compares; Julian Fantino refusing to take the stand at a disciplinary hearing into the alleged misconduct of two of his senior officers. Dalton McGuinty should have fired him on the spot, right then and there, for committing an act of cowardice while wearing the uniform of a duly appointed law officer in this province.

He should STILL fire him. If only we had somebody who had the authority to level the same dereliction charge against Harper and fire him. If only....Merklin Muffleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05850284624604652178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23948057.post-29530181872945869612009-12-31T13:23:50.176-05:002009-12-31T13:23:50.176-05:00Merklin, those lining the over passes are sincerel...Merklin, those lining the over passes are sincerely mourning and honouring young Canadians who have lost their lives in a pointless war half a world away, while Harper and his zealots remake this country. The tragedy is that many Canadians have been duped by this man's feigned Judeo-Christian righteousness. I agree with Deb, - let all of us, personally, make 2010 bloody hell for these louts.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23948057.post-69528126707787616692009-12-31T12:14:40.664-05:002009-12-31T12:14:40.664-05:00First, I can't get too excited about the delay...First, I can't get too excited about the delay itself since it only amounts to about five and a half weeks, from January 29th to March 3rd. Not a long time.

I remember when the Ontario Harrisites took incredibly long breaks from the Legislature, and we came to be just grateful that they weren't actively destroying the Province while they were on vacation.

The reasons to suspend Parliament infuriate me though, especially the Afghan detainee inquiry. When Harper casually commented that nobody much cared what happens to the "Taliban" I went ballistic, but given the behaviour the tories have displayed during the inquiry so far, it's no surprise they would go to any lengths to derail it.

Harper plays on the ignorance of many of us, who last year believed the opposition parties' coalition was illegal, with Harper loudly proclaiming that lie everywhere.

Worse than that, he actively promotes the flourishing of our more base and selfish emotions when he tells us anyone opposed to the Afghanistan war, or any of his government policies is unpatriotic, likely a member of a "left wing fringe group" which turns out to mean a liberal. I hate to think what he privately calls the NDP contingent. The phrase godless socialists comes to mind.

His contempt for Parliament and the people of this country is disgusting.

While I have given up trying to start a revolution, I do suggest that all of us who care about our future sign up for the budget hearing(s) in this riding and make it impossible for Norlock to say that nobody has disagreed with their policies.

Please, do that at least. 372-8757.Deb Onoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23948057.post-526344282553019032009-12-31T11:26:38.756-05:002009-12-31T11:26:38.756-05:00We lost another four soldiers yesterday. Not the sham democracy of Afghanistan but the sham democracy of Canada.

Stephen Harper is a twice-made coward -a wimp that thinks nothing of hiding behind a woman's skirts. This is a Minister of National Defence? This is a government? These knuckle-dragging morons are worth losing your life for?

Well, I won't be on any of those godamned bridges on Sunday with the I'm-more-patriotic-Roll-Up-The-Rim-To-Win Legion rejects and their 3-year old grandkids waving their little Made-In-China Canada flags, proud as punch of their country, their Conservative cowards and their dead-for-no-good-reason soldiers. It's sick, those firetrucks and cops and flashing red lights and competitive salutes. I won't lower myself to that kind of mawkish display. No one should. The invasion is sick, Parliament is sick -the whole godamned Harper happy country is sick.

But....the good news is...we've got Mr. Superbrain Himself running things around here, don't we?
