Certainly Port Hope is a quirky little town but Cobourg is kinda strange too. I suspect there's been too much inbreeding amongst the Scottish, Irish and English who settled the area in the 1800s.

They now think they own the place and are definitely resistant to anyone who can't trace their family back to loopy old Great Grandpa on the farm.

Our challenge now is to gather them all up and put them in a Home together where they can't bother the rest of us who would like to live in the 21st century.

but Ben, it's Port Hope - putting inappropriate elements in residential areas is what we excel at! Like a scrap yard inside a residential zone.... or factories on both sides of a subdivision - it's our charm, after the LLRW is removed we have to have something to bitch about!

As for subsidies for the project in question, uncle Dalton has them looked after with the new FIT incentives under the provinces green plan.

i wonder if their corporate reorg meant they got rid of former Harris minister David Tsubuchi from their board... perhaps Lou and dalton wouldnt put up the cash with so many tories about!

the question is 'build and they will come' or 'when they come, we'll build it'. You have to invest to reap returns. Seems there's a lot of shortsighted people around this neck of the woods. You want vision, you've got to look beyond today guys, and that ain't rocket science either. Of course, if all you want to do is slag the politicians, regardless of what they might come up with, that's a different kettle of fish.

I would have thought that a 'recycling' plant, however how high-tech it may be, is still a recycling plant and therefore totally unsuitable to be sited on land that will abutting residential property. Besides this will probably need subsidies of some sort or other to be viable. Just what PH needs another freeloader comany

Interesting point Ben, but I am curious and perhaps confused. What did we all expect to be in the industrial park? Port Hope isn't exactly a hot bed for corporate headquarters or IT jobs, we don't have a base in pharma and as for manufacturing jobs, well... those are going south, east etc faster than we can replace them.
so... what other option is there? If this is green energy related, doesn't that represent a positive step forward? Or, is there something else that i am missing here about the company in question that i didn't catch on to? cheers

And, God love 'em, they will too. Just take a quick peek any Tuesday night down on Queen Street at what passes for a Mayor and Council. If they'll fall repeatedly for that buncha friggin' goofs they'll fall for anything.

Inbreeding seems to be at the root of it all more than any other obvious cause. I'm surprised they can dress themselves -or maybe Port Hope taxpayers are footing the bill for personal care workers too. This town is a repository of knuckle dragging stupidity the like of which hasn't been seen since King Zog ran Albania. And THAT should be seen as something to look up to compared to what we're stuck with now.
