The Salty Caesar is an off the beat place in the sense that few people – tourists visit. It has gone through a couple of owners since we first discovered it years ago but the same old charm still permeates the place despite who owns it.
We went there after a lunch when somebody said “Where is there a band playing” Afternoon music is a feature of PV because of the number of older adults who prefer to Matinee performance as opposed to the evening. That means they can get to bed early!
Anyway, there was band playing from 3pm to 6pm. They were called the “Lost Dudes” we had never come across them in our travels. There is a hierarchy of bands in PV – A list and B list. The A listers play the bigger places – “El Rio” and “Captain Dons”, the B list plays smaller places and usually Downtown bars. This band was fronted by a singer who contrary to showbiz style stood still and sang into his mike. A very good voice and sang songs from the 90s. In his last set he did play rhythm guitar and was backed by three good local musicians.
Needless to say all four of us were impressed by both the band and the Salty Caesars atmosphere and prices – perhaps some of the cheapest drink prices in PV.
Rating: drinks five forks, band 4.5 ears
