El Rio is a large outside venue that has live music and large BBQ. As part of the “Great Family Tour of PV” it was decided that we would visit the place and listen to the most famous of Mexican RocknRoll bands – the The Gecko Band, Facebook Page here.
This band is led by Victor Vera, a local realtor, has been around for over twenty years. He fronts the band and his musicians are constantly changing. However he does good covers of all genres of music but like 80s.
His followers are fanatically loyal and consist of mainly Canadian Snowbirds. In order to bolster his audience has been touring the the band through the Western Provinces of Canada in the Summer season. People from Saskatchewan appear to be the most rabid. He even organises the Annual “Saskatchewan Roughrider Day” six hundred vocal fans will swell his tip jar.
But back to the Music Day, with over fifteen people wanting to go two issues emerged – transportation and reservations. El Rio will take reservations of any size so that was an easy one. Transportation is a harder nut. The six people staying at the resort and the four of us would travel in a van arranged by one of them the others would get a taxi. With a couple of hiccups all of us got out to El Rio and settled in to listen to the Band.
This year is the last year for this facility as the lease has run out and the land will probably be developed for more condos. But for now this haven for ‘older adults’ acting like ‘Spring Breakers’ has had a reprieve.
