Last day in HCMC
Up late, nothing to do today so just walk around. First stop the Banh Thanh market. This place is supposed to have 6,000 vendors and it looked like it – very crowded. The building was set up in 1824 wiki ref here. We lasted about two quick laps around the building. With 90% humidity and 32 C outside we were overheating.
We quickly got out and walked over to the Saigon Centre. A six storey shopping mall, completely air-conditioned. Wonderful. Walking around the City was a wonderful photo-op time and a few of the pics are in today’s pics page.
Out of there for a rest before dinner at 4pm. The majority wanted to go back to Eddie’s diner for a Thanksgiving turkey dinner. We went and guess what? The people who ordered the turkey dinner hated the turkey! So that effort was a bust but then we decided to go to a rooftop bar.
It had been suggested by a friend of mine that we should visit the rooftop bar at the Caravelle hotel wiki-ref here . Asking why he told me that it a Vietnam War connection with memorabilia on the walls. There was some but not as much as I thought there would be, but enjoyable to look at. The drinks were not as good and were expensive for HCMC – $18 for a beer and cocktail. Walking back to the room we came across a very good idea for all pedestrian walkways Red/Green indicators in the pavement! (pic in the pics of the day) Back to the room to decide what to pack in the morning.
Managed to hook up the ‘fire stick’ and now we are watching 2am TV programmes.
