Day 10
Back to the zoo. With three cruise ships in Town and being a Friday the people count was right up there. The only objective of the day was to “walk the walls” (wiki ref here). One hour and 20 minutes later and 2,859 counted steps we finished. The views were spectacular! We had
skipped about one hundred steps and a severe staircase by not climbing to the Minčeta Tower (pic on the right), the highest point on the walls. But we did finish and we earned the coffee in the small shop around the corner.
Reflecting about the experience – it was one not to be missed, the weather was just right, slightly cloudy and the temp was 22C – good walking weather but humid. it was one that could not be written off as a tick on the ‘bucket
list’. But be warned that the sheer number of visitors made it a bit of a crawl in spots. It was memorable and apart from being extremely crowded the views were spectacular. Being in the Old Town we decided to visit both the Rector’s Palace (wiki ref here) and the Cathedral (wiki ref here). The Rector’s Palace was filled with interesting items, one was the exhibit of the two “Bell Clangers” that used to be in the Cathedral. Continuing the walk in Dubrovnik an unusual sight was seen just by the steps to the Old Monastery – a set of hoisting baskets that the rooftop terrace would use to move the patrons’ food from the kitchen to the tables – a pic is in the ‘pic page’ second pic in.
Doreen still looking for a local souvenir finally found one – a lithographic print. Now the visit was complete. Coming back on the bus, we had purchased the Dubrovnik Pass which allowed us to use the bus for twenty-four hours, the hotel’ restaurant was the most economical of the day so we had an early night after dinner.
