Just a quick question

With the orgasmic flow of print about the "Businesswoman of the year" one wonders why are we singling out women. Surely liberated women would want to be compared to the total population when competing for business honours?

You are such an old white guy Ben. While I don't subscribe to capital "F" feminism I do recognise that if we females had not made a big ruckus way back when, we wouldn't even have the vote. Hell, we wouldn't even be considered persons, we'd all just be the property of our fathers or husbands.

We're not finished yet, so move over boys, we're comin' through (or over or under or around whatever obstacles are put in our way).

Does any reader out there have a clue what is going on with the Cobourg police mess? Nobody seems to be talking, not even the idle gossipers.

Our Town Councillors and Police Service Board have proven, yet again, that they are just not up to the job. None of them! Throw the bums out I say! We just need some good candidates to emerge.

Hello Ben Burd and Joe Sherman, COME ON DOWN!!!

OK so you didn't have the vote, when was that 100 yeaars ago, you do now so use it. The point is that women are a dominant force in small business and as such don't need special categories, Let them dominate the real contest - men and women.

Hold on there, what contest? This male view that everything has to be turned into a competition is why the world is so messed up!

We need to work together as men and women in co-operation towards our common goals, use each other's strengths and overcome our weaknesses by joining forces to make a better world.

Doesn't that sound better my friend? Like the 60's love children all said - "Make love not war!". A very female concept I believe.

I am fundamentally against any of these politically motivated popularity contests whether they be for the men or the women. There are a lot of people who work quietly and without recognition who do an excellent job and are never adequately rewarded for it. Once and awhile people should just remember to say thanks to those they deal with directly. In our capitalist society, those who contribute well to business enterprises will be monetarily rewarded and don't need to be splashed on the front page to confirm that they are successful. Kind of makes you feel the whole arena is one of insecurity, huh?
