Interesting rumours

Ole Huff and Puff, even he has adopted this moniker, David Craig, started his two minutes of local wisdom this morning by dismissing rumours. But then he launched into a whole host of them, and revealed that he was speculating about local pols intentions, in the upcoming election, because they weren't. Trying to make the case that nomination day should be earlier than it is because we, the electorate, do not have enough time between nomination day and election to get to know the candidates.

One of his rumours was one about DM Bob Spooner going up against the real Mayor Peter Delanty, this is still a bit of a stretch for me to believe as Bob has always believed in sure things. Perhaps he knows that Gil Brocanier wants his job and figures that the easiest opponent is the Mayor. He might be right, the Mayor has always had a split following. The problem is that Bob is not the shooin that he thinks he is. My money is on finding out what Brocanier is up to and then watching the pieces fall into place.

I attended the Day of Mourning and it was interesting that Bob Spooner spoke. He said he was there to correct the past mistakes made by previous council[s] for not reconizing the Day of Mourning. He said only John Lindsay and himself spoke in favour of reconizing the Day.
At the presentations I made to council I don't remember Spooner saying anything BUT I do remember you speaking out in support of the Day of Mourning and lowering the flag.

Spooner mentioned my name too, which was a bit strange. All I ever did was the type the letters for the Labour Council, asking the various municipalities to declare the Day of Mourning. It took awhile too, we kept going back every year until they finally approved it.

For sure Ben was on side. Until he got elected to Town Council, he was the President of the Labour Council - the guy signing the letters.

Bob Spooner is a blowhard. As a political pro he lacks polish, despite his many years of practising. Our side has much better talent.

Hey Doug, what are you doing for the next four years? You'd be a great town councillor. Seriously.

One comment about the history of this event. The Labour Council for years tied to get it done, I remember the first year the motion was made Lloyd Williams, then the Reeve, produced a report that stated that the cost of lowering the flags municipality wide could cost up to $25,000. To which I remarked that "that report was the most ridiculous thing I had seen in print to date"
