Ouch - Lou Rinaldi gets a 2*4 across the head

Yes the paper certainly did its best to make Lou look bad, and for the Northumberland Coalition Against Poverty, the story got us all riled up too.

How dare Lou Rinaldi tell the media that NCAP loves his government's budget.

While our spokesperson did indeed say there were good things in the budget for low income folks, she also told the media the miserly 2% increase given to people on Ontario Works and Disability was far from adequate.

This pitiful raise will provide an $11 increase for a single person on welfare and $19 for a disabled person. That will bring their entitlements up from $536 to $547 for the former, and from $959 to $978 for the latter.

Could any of the readers of this column survive on that kind of income? The end result of starving the poor will be huge costs in the future to fix all the problems the system created in the first place.

And Lou, you know damn well that NCAP is NOT happy with your government, you sat and watched members start to cry describing to you what their lives are like on social assistance. Shame on you.
