Results of poll

As promised here is the result of the poll: Do you favour public financing of the Seniors Centre?

I do not support the public financing of the Senior's Centre for the following reasons:

1. It is not being built for the general use of the whole community, just for a select few who are, for the most part, the people who need it the least.

2. While they claim the Centre can be used by community groups, they want to impose a rental fee for the facility. It is those groups who cannot afford the fee who actually need the place, and they will be unable to access it.

3. As for individuals, the $100 annual membership fee is prohibitive for the low income senior population, who are the people who need the Centre. Many of our seniors are quite affluent and they don't need the Town to build a centre and run activities for them; they can well afford to make their own fun. The lonely, isolated low income senior population will be unable to make use of the place because of the membership fees, and then the user fee each time they attend.

4. As to the Soccer Club, they are already charging $120 per child to play soccer, how high will these fees go if the Club participates in the Centre? Many low income kids are already shut of the game with the current fees, how many more will be unable to play?

5. It's a damn stupid idea to start with. If they have extra money to spend, how about improving the transit system instead? That would benefit the Town's residents much more than this white elephant will.
