Some musing about figures

The mayor's race attracted 6995 voters, the DM's race 6689 and the councillor's race produced an average of 5905 per available place. That means a number of people, 1090, did not vote for all of the Council candidates. Just imagine in a race that saw the places 5 - 9 only 500 votes apart where those missing votes were thrown back in the mix. The moral of this speculation is that all votes should be used but not for the people that you do not want to win.

I just read Karen Lloyd's article [in the Cobourg Star] on Gord Gilchrist. Is it possible for anyone to be more arrogant and self-righteous? His condescending attitude toward Ms. Jeninga truely shows the measure of the man... Although to admit she was ladylike AND had a good mind was rather big of him.

Ben,
There were 300 voters who WOULD NOT vote for Gil, and did not vote for the alternative, most likely out of friendship or guilt of some sort. They simply left that choice blank. When Gil finally "gets" that bit of reality, he may feel pretty lucky about the whole thing afterall. Sounds a bit bitter, but it's the sober truth. Now I can't wait for the next round of rumours to start wending their way through the various chat circles.

Hubris is not big in the returnees, a couple of comments about the show from a couple of watchers
"Boy you put Brocanier's tits in the wringer" and "Dean looked pretty smug last night!"

Here's a bit of news that I am surprised we have not heard about.

A resident of the D'arcy Elgin neighbourhood, who diligently votes in every election, was curious why she and her husband didn't receive any kind of voting card or notice for the municipal vote. She went to her neighbour and candidate Rob Harper, who asked around and came to the conclusion that most of the residents there, consisting of hundreds and hundreds of voters, had not recieved any notification of their polling station either.

I am told Mr.Harper went to the Town office to let them know and urge them to take some action, and was met with complete indifference.

I can't verify this story but it was a tale told to me by a resident that I've known for fifteeen years, and I have no reason not to believe her.

Man, that's alot of missing votes isn't it? I'd love to see the numbers and be able to compare them to last time. Is that even possible with the new technology?

Can anyone corroborate this?
