The back room revenge!
Warning,The following report is based on speculation and personal knowledge of process
On Monday evening the Cobourg council will appoint members of the public to various advisory boards that report to Council. The procedure for getting appointed is pretty simple, one applies and then waits to be picked by Council. In reality this process is one of power politics. The reason being is that the list of appointees is the coordinators responsibility. BUT the coordinators picks have to be ratified by the rest of Council behind closed doors. So the public never gets to see the petty vindictiveness and political backbiting that occurs when a name that is not acceptable to the majority pops up on a coordinator's list.
As was the case last Monday when names were put forward by the new councillors. The top of the list never made it to the final selection.
As the events were behind closed doors in an 'in-camera' meeting one can only speculate the absolute glee the old guard must have felt when they had the chance to put the boots to the 'new way of doing things' as the coordinator of planning tried to make the case (I speculate about these things as we will never know the truth; after all the participants are sworn to secrecy!).
