Note to Brocanier

Hey Gil, read this and then tell us we are spending money wisely. Cities use pricey perks to lure doctors. I have always thought that using municipal money on health care is a total diversion and waste of real tax money. This story about the escalation of incentives just proves to me that the Province has to step in and stop this nonsense.

Canadian universities host many foreign students. It might be beneficial to fast track medically-educated immigrants to serve 3-5 years of their careers in smaller communities as payback for their education and for the fast tracking of their Canadian citizenship.

This is kind of related to the topic, hopefully close enough not to engender too many dismissive responses.

My daughter recently spent a couple of days at Mount Sinai Hosptial in Toronto, and told me something that I thought illustrates quite well how desperate the health care system is to scrape money together.

In Mount Sinai, there is not one, but two Tim Horton stores. There could be more, but she only saw the one on the fourth floor where she stayed, and another in a general patient waiting area.

Not only does this suggest a certain desperation on the hospital's part, but also a transformation of patients into consumers; somehow like they're all hanging out at a mall rather than waiting for medical services in a health care facility.

What's next, take out the physiotherapy department and invite Gold's Gym to set up shop?

Or am I just another cranky pre-senior looking for something to complain about?
