More on stupid people

This letter was published in the Northumberland News:

To the Editor:

My husband and I attended the Cobourg Waterfront Festival on June 29.

We parked on a small side street and did see the no parking sign, however we parked well off the street not blocking anything.

When we returned, a tow truck was hooking up our van. We received a parking ticket and feel this may have been justified, but to tow the van over a $22 ticket is a bit much.

Is the Town of Cobourg that much in need of money? We are three seniors with a veteran sticker on our licence plate, yet the tow trucks were lined up like vultures.

God help the poor out-of-town families left stranded with children, not knowing if their vehicle had been stolen. I would think Cobourg would be more lenient when they are looking for the tourist trade.

We for one will never attend your festival again.

Jean Ferguson

Brighton

What can we say? Try this - "If you knowingly parked under a No Parking sign and then complained about being towed because you were in a safety zone we don't want you in Cobourg if you are not going to obey the law!!"

These people will never get it, no matter what you do.

After all, they were 3 seniors with a veterans sticker - doesn't that exempt them from the rules that govern the rest of us?

Oh look at that -- you hit the nail directly on the head. The 3 make an unseemly display of their sense of entitlement because they won the war against the nazis.

I just wonder if you keep posting about towing people is because you get a distinct thrill out of having some sort of twisted 'power' over another person by towing their vehicle. At the waterfront festival there was ample parking that did not say reserved, or no parking, but in fact was. There was no markings of this or people around to say so, therefore people parked there - coming back in the afternoon having their car towed. I witnessed it first hand, and that is hardly how we should welcome people to our community. If there is a sign, sure - go nuts, tow away and get your thrill. Otherwise, let the people be.

And yes, facing death in the face and battling the greatest threat most countries have ever faced in modern history does give someone a sense of entitlement, rightfully so. You watch your friends, family and countrymen die and you can park wherever the hell you want.

You can have the job anyday. The abuse you get from people with the same opinion as yours is not worth it.

However because I don't believe in censorship I allowed this comment to go ahead even though it is extremely insulting, to me, to those who believe in rules and really insulting to all those who don't have a peculiar sense of perverted entitlement!

I regard most individuals who hide behind anonymity as spineless cowards and deceitful. They are unable to stand up and take personal responsibility or ownership for their words. They can toss them out like grenades into the public domain and giggle behind the curtains when they hurt or offend.

I wonder if anonymous' policy that those who are veterans can park anywhere any time they please also applies to the veterans of other nations; for example those veterans who happily killed the Soviets in Afghanistan, or the Serb veterans who witnessed the slaughter of their families by Bosnian Muslim extremists, or, or . . .

I guess anonymous belongs to the school of thought George Orwell placed into his dystopian novel Animal farm, when the dictatorial pig claimed that "Some people are more equal than others."

Wow, alot of BS for a simple comment! Ben Burd is crusty! I too received a parking ticket this weekend at another festival. Thought it would be nice to take the wife and kids to your lovely city to see the Sandcastle Festival. I guess you have alot of festivals there, it's unfortunate you expect visitors (tourism) to boost the local economy yet adequate parking is not provided. But, no problem, clearly it was my fault for trying to park near the beach. I should have parked 5 blocks away and carry all the beach 'stuff' and the kids with me. I accept full responsibility for my terrible judgement. Don't worry Jean, (and please spare me your ridiculous response Ben,) just make sure you spread the word to as many people as possible to NOT visit the beautiful city of Cobourg and NOT attend any of their festivals, I know I have already spread this word around. Oh, did I mention this backwards city's does not allow for the payment of any infractions online. You must use paper and a stamp, and an actual handwritten cheque and mail it all in. Last time I used a cheque was 3 years ago! Keep spreading the news! Don't go to Cobourg!
