The satire is a delight to watch, yet satire is very much at threat in Canada, and from something more venal than art cuts. I refer to the assorted human rights organs in this country, especially Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Acts.

The NDP embraces this totalitarian CHRC destruction of freedom of expression in this country. Even if government increases arts funding, the CHRC will decide what gets published or broadcast.

The Dufferin-Caledon Liberal candidate, Rebecca Finch, yesterday addressed this issue.

When asked about the Canadian Human Rights Commission’s persecution of Ezra Levant who had published the Danish cartoons that had caused many Muslims to behave with lethal consequences, Ms Finch said that “insofar as leading to litigation goes, I think he has the right to make the choice of what he publishes so long as it doesn't cause a direct threat to anyone's life or livelihood. The whole point of freedom of expression is to give people a choice - whether or not to be a good person, whether to exercise compassion, whether to be critical against the voices of the masses due to a deep belief in what's right, whether to resort to base meanness or anger, whether to take the high road, whether to mock or manipulate - these are all choices we make that define what sort of person we are and how we contribute to this world, and I don't think anyone has the right to make that choice for us. As a result, we often have to hold our noses over the choices some people make and put up with the smell. ...the implications of censorship are far-reaching and ultimately are never the right decision."

The NDP is nowhere as staunch a supporter of freedom of speech.
