So after much money this is what we get

This is the portion of tomorrow's agenda for the CoW to discuss. It is a recommendation from the highly paid consultants, that studied the need for a Recreation/Community Centre. Look carefully and you will see that a key component of any Community Centre - a swimming pool is missing. So the Hockey guys get THREE pads and the swimmers still have to pay above market prices in a small pool at the NON-profit YMCA, of which we pay to uphold.
Silly me I thought the idea of such a grandiose scheme was to consolidate recreational needs and that includes cutting off the annual subsidy to the YMCA because we will need every penny for this. But if the nabobs and manipulators leave out a swimming pool then the Y can get the subsidy and the taxpayer still gets the shaft.
BTW the site for this grandiose structure has yet to be announced it was buried in the report that was not posted on the internet. There are seven sites and one involves using existing soccer fields, but the CSC has been promised replacement fields (further adding to the end cost!)

Hi Ben
Not sure how much this report cost, but the five items you posted could have come from any "wo/man on the street' interview. Sooooo, did we really need to spend all that money on a study?

The Gods of Hockey ALWAYS win. All they have to do is whine a little to the jocks, ex-jocks and would-be-jocks who hold the purse strings and, Bob's your uncle! Never mind that soccer enrolment outstrips hockey in this land by a ratio of about four-to-one; never mind that not one study has been conducted, ever, to determine how many Canadians actually WANT to subsidize this "national" sport; never mind that ALL municipal recreation in this country begins and ends with HOCKEY, and everything else gets the scraps; never mind that the price of both ice time and hockey equipment is rapidly driving the sport exclusively into the hands of either the rich, or the lucky ones who find some subsidy money in the pockets of Rotarians, Lions, Oddfellows, etc. I tried taking the ******* Gods of Hockey on several years ago and got nothing but grief for my efforts. They whined incessantly about how many hours the parents and coaches volunteer each year, as if every other rec activities adult supervision comes with a paycheque. Frankly, these people disgust me; and with Cobourg council about to put its citizens in hock for another edifice to the sport that pays a moron like Don Cherry a couple of million bucks a year, they disgust me too.

I cannot believe this whole community centre scam is just an excuse for more hockey rinks! Unbelieveable! The nerve! Could we possibly demand a referendum on the ballot next year to see if this is truly what the taxpayers want?

It sure isn't what I had in mind but considering I didn't think we needed it in the first place it would be hard to satisfy me on this topic.
