The first of many - I fear
President Obama, in a big decision today tossed one of his major platform planks on the pyre. By upholding the Tribunals at Guantanamo he has disappointed many who voted for him.
"What happened to President Obama's confidence in the U.S. justice system's ability to try detainees? He himself said that 'we need not throw away 200 years of American jurisprudence while we fight terrorism.'" asked Amnesty International's executive director Larry Cox in this story ?
I just hope that this will not be the first, of what I fear to be, many expedient political decisions in Obama's reign. The decisions made so far appear to be more on the side of the 'ruling elite' than the for the people who voted for him. A sad trend. Making a mockery of the chant, "Yes we can". maybe we can but choose not to!
And if you think that is bad read this story about the "Immediate Reaction Force" (IRF) in Guantanamo."What happened to President Obama's confidence in the U.S. justice system's ability to try detainees? So, where's the apoplectic comment about this travesty of justice, which elevates national rights above individual rights? There must be something here that I don't get--eh, Wally?!
