In this story the Government of Canada is refusing to tell the taxpayers how much the war in Afghanistan is costing, because of national Security Issues. Now we have heard everything, it's a pity that the Rick Mercer show is on summer break this move would be satirized for weeks if it was on.
In this story we have Iggy backtracking some more, anymore and he will be off the edge of where he started. EI reform - last week definitely or I will defeat the government, this week when it's too late to do anything because everybody is sucking back pop and chewing 'burgers, EI reform is not guaranteed. Even if strategic voting had elected Macklin in this riding, we would still be waiting for economic justice.
In contemplation of Harper deciding our military spending costs are none of Canadians' business, it occured to me that now Parliament is on recess, Harper will again be showing his true colours.
Without Iggy and Co. threatening an election at every turn, Harper is free to unleash his inner tyrant. Hopefully he will go to it full throttle, proving with finality that he cannot and should not be our prime minister, thus leading to his downfall when an election eventually comes.
Sounds good to me.
The Montreal Gazette story about the costs of our war in Afghanistan reports that Defense Minister Peter MacKay told "an audience of defence contractors and lobbyists that the government would spend $60 billion on new capital acquisitions by 2028."
MacKay actually said much more than that. Here is some of what he said:
"Speaking this past month at CANSEC, Canada’s largest annual defence trade show, Minister of Defence Peter MacKay reassured his audience that despite the country’s current economic situation defence contracts are secure. In a recent article about the trade show by Mike Blanchfield of the Canwest News Service MacKay is quoted as saying 'The funding will be there, I assure you. It’s locked in'.”
Warmongering contractors are locked in; unemployed workers on EI are locked out. In Conservative Euchre, War trumps Peace.
