I had written something in anger but,
Last night, at the news of Iggy playing silly buggers, I wrote something that would have offended most people, best of all my liberal friends. Basically it was a commentary about the folly of trying to prove who's got the biggest ego, opinion and other male appendages and attributes. If anybody is supporting an election call on Friday they must be stark raving mad, and that's my last comment on it.
Remember this, the hole in a brand new street? Well there is a good reason, and there had to be one to get around the "5 year rule" - no digging on a newly paved street for five years. All homeowners, contractors and other interested parties are asked before the road is closed about future hookups and other works that require a hole, any thing after that has to wait 5 years. The reason was simple - the Gas Company, notorious for ripping up streets, had reported a gas leak. A week after the paving, an old gas line ruptured and the street was dug up to locate it.
Now here is a very interesting idea. contract the size of Towns and Cities for urban efficiency. This article describes a movement, that has actually started to bulldoze unused houses in suburbia, reduce the service area and save money in the delivery of municipal services. Should make some planners think about current dogma about expanding areas for "growth".

I wouldn't worry about Conservatives, Liberals & New Democrats. They are all the same: political parties.
Tweedle-dee
Tweedle-dumb
Tweedle-dumber
The left is as stupid as the right.
The right is as venal as the left.
The right is responsible for Pinochet & Chile
The left is responsible for lunacy of Iran
At our house we are also disgusted by the foolishness unfolding in Ottawa, and it is indeed difficult to decide who is the biggest fool.
What surprises me now is learning that Ben has liberal friends. I thought he only had socialist friends, the kind who would be amused by a lewd virtual debate about which politician is the biggest dick (as opposed to who has the biggest one, which is another discussion altogether).
Perhaps instead we could discuss who is most politically correct, liberals or socialists. That might be fun. I say it's liberals because they seldom seem to have any sense of humour at all. We socialists, while there aren't many of us, are quite witty and clever; just ask us.
Political correctmess emerged from socialists.
Liberals imposed it with a vengeance because they had the power.
Conservatives are tip toe spineless to roll it back by abolishing the Orwellian Canadian Human Rights Commission, especially Section 13 of their mandate.
The leadershit of the assorted Human Rights Commissions across Canada are all witless socialists attempting to increase their censorshit gag-power on Canadians.
The whole situation is very Canadian: compliant, conformist, mediocre, NICE as ice.
Pierre Trudeau was an NDP member but became a liberal to get power. Bob Rae was NDP and became a liberal to lose power.
I once studied political science and the prof told me I was NDP. I asked why he said that and he told me "because you seem to have principles". He was right, but also quite serious, which is bad news for the mainstream parties.
Progressive Conservatives, Liberals, New Democrats are all mainstream.
Interesting responses, almost on topic today. I don't agree that socialists invented "political correctness" though, that was the right wing, looking for ways to discredit the kind of progressive, respectful discourse and behaviour that was evolving to reflect the desire to ensure that everyone was treated with dignity regardless of race, occupation, ability, sex, age etc etc.
The Right did an excellent job of it, turning the phrase "PC" on its head until now it is practically a curse word thrown out at anyone who consciously tries not to offend people through language.
Now, being PC means you're an uptight straight laced stuffy unimaginative bore, it is no longer even close to its orginal meaning, and another opportunity to educate the public has gone south.
For me, the meaning of the phrase political correctness is simple - it means common courtesy and good manners, treating everyone with respect. There's nothing wrong with that is there?
There is nothing wrong with that unless it is enforced by the state; i.e. various Human Rights Commissions. PC was brought to the public square with the social engineering mission of "progressive, respectful discourse and behaviour that was evolving to reflect the desire to ensure that everyone was treated with dignity regardless of race, occupation, ability, sex, age etc etc."
Tell me about how respectful Gordon Gilchrist was treated by the swarming mob of self-righteous verbal puritans.
Here is a letter (Ms Guided View of Political Correctness, 1994, Letter of the Day, Toronto Star) [ http://www.flickr.com/photos/wallykeeler/2099179001/sizes/l/in/set-72157603244422857/ ] demonstrating the "small change" of political correctness and the utter stupidity of a woman's response to it. A very presumptuous reply concerning the gender of the child with the snowman.
And then there is the sexist crap of peace feminists as replied to by this letter (Power is Genderless, 1991, Globe & Mail) which I composed and my ex-wife signed because it would not have been published if the signature was a man's.
