There is no way Patrick will look like a twit, and this certainly won't be his first shot at public speaking.
When he was still in high school he and a few others in the Social Justice club from CDCI East joined up and worked with the Northumberland Coalition Against Poverty, and Pat especially took a lead role and came up with terrific ideas to move the work forward.
He is well qualified to take on this challenge and I suspect will run rings around Norlock and Rudd in debate.
His first public appearance to the local NDP or his first public appearance ever?
I think Pat will make an excellent candidate, he is young, energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, believes in social justice and is young. He has a bright future.
All the intelligence of this confirmed Social Democrat won't get him past the bouncer at the eternal Liberal/Conservative Ball. Something like Ralph Nader said in today's Star, the left's got some of the best ideas, but hasn't found the engine to get them out of the station. So, pat the young lad on the head and tell him to come back when/if he learns/wants to dance. What does the NDP really want ?
If you want to patronise have the guts to put your name to it and don't sign anonymous. Quite the comment on your convictions to criticise from behind the bush. Sp pray tell me Oh Wise one hiding behind anon just how does one dance with two-headed two tongued slimy doubletalkers who lie to get into office. Methinks the lonliest of all dances is to one's own drummer.
The persistence of the NDP, and it's antecedents, in advancing intelligent argument for Social Democracy in Canada has shaped today's Canada in more profound ways than mere success at the polls might suggest. This is nothing new to most. A good idea is a good idea is a good idea.... In this warped world of received ideas, it's about time the label of Social Democrat is viewed as a badge of honour. Go for it, Pat.
Frank,
Nicely put.
