Sunday #4
You knew that with all these posts going up in one day there would be one that may off the wall. Here it is, an email from anonymous, if I suggested this I would stay anonymous too!
"At the risk of being written off as nothing but a grassy knoller, I think you should put this idea up before anybody else thinks of it.
Cobourg does not need a new train station. Nobody asked for a new train station. It just sort of popped up, like magic, out of nowhere.
Today, the story is all over the news that the mafia runs the construction industry in Montreal. Montreal-based VIA was up to its ass in the sponsorship scandal. They lost most of their head office over it. It was noticed, over the years, that untendered contracts for new station roofs, a wholly unnecessary design, station signage, uniforms for engineers (unnecessary and unwanted) -Christ, you name it- were legendary and laughable. But God help anyone who questioned any of it. All of it was run from Montreal -all of it.
So, propose the question will you: Is Cobourg's new VIA Station going to be built by the Montreal Mafia?"
So there it is folks who is getting the "brown envelopes" in this deal?

That could be true, but the mob in question here is the tories, who must think the locals in Northumberland will feel blessed to have this largesse dumped on them, even if they don't need or want the station replaced. More parking would be appreciated, but the station itself is perfectly adequate for our needs.
Actually, the poster's description how "it just sort of popped up, like magic, out of nowhere" reminds me of our brand new county building, plopped unceremoniously on the front yard of the Golden Plough, whose residents lost their green space to accommodate the monstrosity.
Who really cares what citizens think, we are just the cash cows who pay for it all, whatever level of government imposes their whims on us.
I'm just blown away by the breathtaking naivete of Cobourg politicians. Except for Miriam Mutton, they're just the happiest-faced buncha goofs this side of Mayberry. VIA is taking you suckers for a ride, dummies -and it ain't on a godamned train.
Your being hoodwinkinked. But as long as it's free, you'll grab it. Christ, if they were giving away free leeches, Cobourg politicians and the Rotary Club would be brawling with each other to see who could get their hand in the jar first.
Wait till you see who gets the contracts to build your next monstrosity. Better brush up on your high-school French folks -and The Gomery Inquiry while you're at it- because you're about to learn a lesson in Quebec business practices. One you're not likely to forget anytime soon unfortunately.....
Nobody is ever going to tell VIA Rail Canada that they can't throw your money out the window of a speeding express train if they want to. Get a load of this -'frontline employee' is a euphamism for 'engineer'. VIA has been fighting for years to inflict uniforms on engineers who neither want or need them. Each uniform, sources tell, will cost about $2,000. YOU get to pay for it. The question is this: Whose brother-in-law-whose-name-ends-in-a-vowel will get the contract to supply this uber-fasionable garbage? VIA is stuffing uniforms down engineers throats just like they're going to stuff a station down Cobourg's throat. Why is it the jerks who run VIA can't just stick to getting people where they want to go -preferably on time?
