Back to the Prorogue

On December 31st I sent the following email to our esteemed MP RN.

"Mr Norlock
I note with dismay that your back to work date has moved from Jan 25 to march 3rd. Could you please explain just what you will be doing in that time to advance your constituents concerns?
yours sincerely.
Ben Burd "

In a two page letter from an untitled person who signed himself, on behalf of RN MP, dated Jan 7th I was informed of all the good things that the Ruling Party has done for us. Not one answer to the question posed. Today on "Cramahe Now" Bob Owen has published a "presser from the said MP RN which lays out the schedule for public consultations. here it is:

Public meetings will take place on:

January 16th, 2010
10:00am-11:30am
The Oddfellows Hall, 243 Victoria St. Campbellford On.

1:00pm-2:30pm
The Multipurpose Room City Hall Quinte West, 7 Creswell Drive

January 20th, 2010
4:00pm-6:00pm
Rick Norlock’s Office, 277 Division St. Cobourg On.

The Federal Government will be seeking responses from Canadians on a number of questions, including:

1. Are there measures in the Economic Action Plan that should be revised? Measures that should be extended? Measures that should be ended prior to their planned retirement date? Are there areas where funding should be shifted to meet changed priorities?

2. Our government has outlined a plan to eliminate the deficit as the economy stabilizes, without drastic spending cuts or increases to taxes. If warranted, we will slow the growth of direct program spending in future years to ensure balanced budgets. In what areas should we focus spending growth restraint?

3. To what extent has Canada's Economic Action Plan been effective in stimulating activity in their industry, sector or community?

4. What suggestions do they have for improving the effectiveness of the Government's stimulus measures or the speed of their delivery?

5. What steps should the Government take to improve the competitiveness of the Canadian economy and ensure that Canada continues to attract investment and create jobs once the recovery is achieved and the Economic Action Plan is wound down?

Note that the meeting in Cobourg will take place at his office, which is only big enough to hold a meeting for less than a dozen. Also note that he is seeking answers to questions, nothing about receiving suggestions or opinions from constituents. So now the challenge is up to you, the angry people. Go and see Mr Norlock at these places. and if the locations are not large enough to hold the number of people who wish to speak to him, force him to change locations. But do so at your peril any sign of organisation will be decried as "political activity sponsored by .... insert name of hated organisation here...."

As always, RN's questions are patronizing and condecending to the residents of NWQ. He clearly doesn't want to actually hear from his constituents, otherwise he wouldn't ask such questions that clearly have no relevance.

Why do I say that? Either he hasn't followed the news (Harper and Flaharety saying the recession is over and no new spending (CBC article here, there are many others http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/01/11/budget-stimulus-harper.html) or he just wants to hear you come out to his roundtable to discuss how great of a job he is doing.

Which is exactly what he expects to happen. Look foward to his conservative association drowning out any decenting voices as well as pages and pages of speaking notes provided by his-almighty-on-high the PM himself.

If he really wanted to hear from people he would go outside of his constituency office (I know I know he will say that to save money he'll use the office already there, however, I'm sure people would be more then willing to lend a hall for a few hours to let the people speak ... then again, he spends 90k plus shipping for flyers, why not spend a bit more to actually reach out to people in a realisitic way).

You go girlfriend.

No, seriously, go. Unless you're going to honestly reach out and do something other than read the messages of the day, go. We get your flyers and we know how to read, don't need you to read them to us.

I would have thought that since this is an Internet forum that the first place to look for answers from Norlock would be his web site. What you have quoted is straight off the home page.
If you wish to give him feedback, his email address is also there under contacts.

If you read the post I asked him on December 31st well before his website was amended, still no answer.
Perhaps if he included the BurdReport on his press mailout list then we could have up to date responses. BTW I took the release from Bob Ow'ns great site, not RN's webpage.

Big deal!

So Norlock doesn't respond directly to a question asked.

I rec'd the same dismissal from NDP's Dan Heap, and Liberal's Christine Stewart concerning the use of forced labour on the CANDU construction for the Ceasuscu dictatorshit in Romania.

Christine Stewart was largely a bald-faced hypocrite in this matter.

Perhaps Mr. Draper could answer a couple of questions: 1) If Rick Norlock has any genuine interest in what his constituants have to say, why has the 'Have Your Say' forum on his website been inactive since Christ was a kid? and 2) Is Rick Norlock still an executive member of the Quinte Chapter of The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, an organization supposedly dedicated to protecting elk but in fact a canned hunting outfit that goes after the animals with high-powered rifles on private property behind fences the elk can't leap?

These are but two of the questions I want to ask Mr. Norlock. Don't get me wrong; I admire anyone who can go from being a big dumb cop to a big dumb backbencher in less time than it takes to off an elk. I really do. To that end I intend to ask my questions in the most respectful manner, showing Mr. Norlock exactly the same respect he and his alleged government show the citizens of Canada.

Merkin Muffley was the name of the US president in Dr. Strangelove. Why does Merklin Muffley believe that a Canadian MP would be responsive to his questions, respectful or otherwise?

Getting mad at the tories may make us feel better; going to the protest in Peterborough even more so, but in the end, what is the solution?

O where is our Obama, our saviour from the mess our own apathy created?

Count Iggy is a flop who has our own local lib. candidate in hiding.

Layton, sadly, is past his best-by date. Too pragmatic for his own good.

Young Trudeau isn't ready, leaving only Bob Rae, with all his worn out baggage.

What the hell, let's give him a chance while there is still time.

If we wait too long, Harper may progrogue us right out of even having elections too.
