A massive correction and a rebuttal to anonymous email

One of the wonders, and dangers, of running an online publication like this that one runs into conflicts. The usual one for me is simple - do I publish anonymous emails, even if they are sole sourced. When they are topical or interesting I will publish as it may be in the public interest, besides 90% of them turn out to be factual. Such was the decision last week when I published an anonymous email quoting the Deputy Mayor being overheard saying topical things. I have since received a phone call from the Deputy Mayor refuting, in the strongest terms, the allegation that he was trying to support Mr MacDonald's incumbency by promising him any portfolio he wanted if he was elected. This is untrue as Mr Brocanier has told me it is. So we at the BurdReport don't apologise for the printing but do regret the consequences that may have caused to a few.

"anonoymous" - very apt AND very clever Ben

At least Cobourg politicians are reading BurdReport.

In Port Hope you can say anything you want about a politician in any forum -BurdReport included. It doesn't matter. Either the entire Ward 1 Council is functionally illiterate or they simply don't care. The fact remains Ben, you have never heard a single response from any one of the Ward 1 simpletons running Port Hope -and you never will.

Publish or perish, baby -it's as simple as that. Just ask the editors (or better yet the readers) of our two so-called local newspapers.

Thanks for the tip about my bad proofreading, I would have thought a name to the tip would have been apt.

no, no, you see it said "an(o)noymous" as in "annoy" - neat!
e-mails that are erroneous are definitely annoying.

Ben, does this incident cause you to consider re-evaluating your position about anonymous posters?

There is rumbling from the ranks objecting to their presence here.

Ben stay the course on Anonymous postings many of us can only contribute actual and factual insider information with this shield!

Anonymous postings are very welcome. The problem I have with them is when they become abusive and hide behind anonymous

Some people here seem to have become quite agitated by anonymous postings. However, consider if you have acquired a reputation as a fool or a crank through your previous online activities.

The sight of your name alone for some readers might distract from or discredit the content of your current sophisticated and witty public offerings.

By using anonymous as your tagline your views can stand or fall on their own merits without being tarnished by a prickly personality or unsavoury public image.

All Hail Anonymous!

Ah...WHICH anonymous exactly? You? Or that other anonymous? Or the one over there? Opps. Hang on. He moved. Now he's THAT anonymous, the one over there. Except now he's a she. And she just became anonymous three.

Pick a handle. Hide behind the handle all you want. I do. So do lots of posters. The advantage to other posters is being able to follow a line of reasoning from one post to another under the same handle.

I know it's a lot to ask. But we'd all be really, really grateful. And besides, are you really comfortable having words put into your mouth by fifty other anonymouses? I wouldn't be.

Actually "anonoymous" is a fine attempt, but inadequate. It should be spelled annoymouse; THAT is more appropoetic.

Eat it up you inadequate hefty lefties and blightwingnuts.

now that's rich, from the crayon of a self-anointed princess of free speeech and word-deformation, the edict that something "should be spelled" a certain way to conform to his definition of anything!

Just when I expect that the princess has reached peak as the Burd Report's foil for cogent and reasonable discussion, there's yet ever more.

Genius, Ben, sheer genius.

coming back closer to the original topic and a mention of Boll MacDonald, one would think that if he actually intends to run again, he would have announced it by now so he can start raising support. If he is not running he would delay that announcement as long as he can to keep the present council in an active position until all the deeds they want to do are done, such as a troublefree yacht club expansion and a 5+ storey condo on Queen St, and most of all, a matter of a community sports facility on D'Arcy that has not yet got a building permit, just to name a few.

In any event, this becomes a lame duck council after Sept 10, regardless.
