Is this guy Mad?
Not angry but insane "mad" would be my take on it. For the Libs to precipitate an election in September for a November election when the neither the electorate nor the polls indicate success is blindly foolish. " I don't like this government" was a quote pulled from Sudbury where the northern air must have affected the collective brains of the Liberal caucus, either that or Senator David Smith must have smoked something really peculiar, at Fisherman's Cottage at the foot of Bagot St last weekend, for he was on record early last week as counselling against an early election. Nobody except the neo-con zeolots like this government but they will dislike the subsequent Con majority even less!
Only one pundit out of the eight, whose opinions are collected on today's National Newswatch, talk about either the wisdom of an election or that it is needed. All the others caution against it and rail against 'opportunist Liberals'. Not one person can be found today, in local do-nut shops, apart from the fossilised brains at the Dutch Oven, who is in favour of an election. Can a person be found who one breath praises the government and in the other proclaim enthusiasm for an election where the outcome may just be a majority for Harper, providing meat to the saying, "A pox on all your houses - here's a majority and don't bother me for another four years!" If there is, I would call that person an "opportunistic liberal".
Oh I almost forgot, heard a delicious local rumour, what with all the chattering classes talking about the need for new blood at the Council level how's this for new blood - Dean Pepper for Mayor. This guy was a perennial winnner in the 80s and 90s. His style of campaigning was to put his name on the ballot and then do nothing except pay for a cheesy pamphlet. Worked every time, I guess all of his old and drug-laden (legally prescribed after all Dean is a pharmacist) customers pulled him through. The best part about it is that Brocanier doesn't have to fight with his wife about moving up to the Mayor's chair.

Ben,
What are the big double signs that have been put up by Town workers at 3 places along D'arcy St? Blank so far. Are they going to promote the new Community Centre?
DOn't know, haven't seen them but they had better put something on them or invite the public to "make - a - sign"!
The Liberals must have unbearable heartburn over the dubious propping up of Harper's non-government. At the very least, you might admit it shows some conscience. Many of us scorned them for allowing Harper to survive so long. Are we now prepared to scorn them for pulling the plug ? How many are prepared to see the Tories in a majority position ? Are you Ben ?
If memory serves, I don't think either Dean or Jody Pepper is a pharmacist. Their father, who started the business, was, but the boys hire their skilled help!
I am prepared to pour scorn on those who will precipitate an election based on a trumped up excuse and "I don't like this government" is not good enough. How about "vote for me because I will do this "insert idea here" differently from the Tories.
Unfortunately average joe voter, who spends about 30 minutes of political acumen every election cycle will apply the thinking _"Duh who give us a rest from elections?" granting Harper, because he has only offended Libs and other political people, a majority, "After all he hasn't really messed up" unless you are unemployed and 87% of the workforce still have their jobs.
So to Joe Voter let's finish this debate for ever give Harper his majority and leave me alone. Unfortunately the prospect of a Harper majority scares the thinkers and opposition shitless. So I say unless the libs have favourable polls don't go to the polls. But I guess Iggy has drunk the koolaid and will take us down too.
The bare signs are no longer bare. Starting to tout federal money for road reconstruction on D'arcy, not the Community Center, except in a way, road improvement in that neighbourhood is all CC related.
Forget the " I don't like this government " stuff, the majority of Canadians can't stomach the government either. The trick will be if Iggy is adroit enough to seize the advantage. And if we're forced into another early election there ought to be stark choices for Canadians to make, and no free rides either.
Yes, of course he's mad. And he has little to lose. Once he fails at the polls ... and he surely will if we vote this fall ... he can always return to the land of academe and write another book. Something like, "Why Canadians fail to get me." David Smith is obviously out of touch with any ordinary Canadians; too comfortable and pompous in the extreme. Iggy and Davey have played into Harper's hands, I fear. Prepare to cast your ballot in November.
