Most elections progressives and alternate thinkers do not get their candidates elected. However those of us who do not support the status quo have a little bit to cheer about today and the neo-cons will be driven to distraction by the news that another bogeyman is in Town. The polarising figure in the picture is Sid Ryan, formerly President of the CUPE division of Ontario, now the President of the Ontario Federation of Labour. This fiery charismatic person, one who compels almost instant opinion is now in the twilight of his career as a labour leader and his final hurrah will be to steer the house of labour through turbulent waters. I wish him luck.

Anything that puts unease into the ranks of employers and governments is okay by me. We should rock them back on their heels now and again.
Also, thanks to Wayne Samuelson.
He was always great. A clear-thinking, level-headed person with a broad smile and a friendly welcoming approach.
Happy to see this post, I certainly didn't notice a big story in Torstar, although I found an editorial that speculated about labour confrontations in the second sentence.
I know and admire Wayne Samuelson very much, he has worked damn hard for many years, and told me 2 years ago he wanted to see more of his grandkids.
If any one can fill his shoes, Sid Ryan can. A pugnacious, Irish street fighter may be exactly what Labour needs right now.
What`s Irish got to do with anything? Is the suggestion that Irish males are better at the pugnaciousmess than other nationalities or ethnicities? Tough alpha males -- is that what the labour movement needs?
All I know is the man must have one helluva big jock strap.
It's a joke strap.
Are you doing post-doctorate work on dupe-901?
