A free way out

On Monday evening the Council will be receiving a letter from the farmers' Market organisation asking for financial help in closing 2nd Street for market purposes. Why do they need help? because Council has determined that in order to close the street on a regular basis it would cost $7,500, mainly to offset the cost of union labour needed to arrange the barriers each week.

But has the union been consulted to waive the arrangement? How much would it cost to have the aleready 'oncall' person erect the barriers or even better how much to pass a bylaw authorising the street closing and then have the already bought and paid for Bylaw Officer string a chain across 2nd St using the existing bollards/ street lamps.

Just a cheap thought

The Farmers' Market needs to get its objectives in order. They seem to not have a long-term view of their future, and too often can't agree amongst themselves on what they want. Maybe the town is just trying to keep them from making short-sighted decisions.

Great thought, makes sense, however Union will never give an inch and would scream at any idea of the contract bylaw person doing THEIR work.

Another suggestion, contract out Public Works. Problem solved.

One would think closing 2nd St. to allow the Farmer's Market to expand would be a 'no brainer' for the town council. Oh wait! Maybe that's the problem?????

I suppose they'll use those dirty orange and black construction barriers that are brought out whenever the downtown has a "festival" --so attractive for visitors!

But why the need for barriers anyway especially at the outrageous cost of $7500. Damn this town loves to spend money! Just park a farm truck on either end of the street, problem solved.

Did anyone from the Town even ask the Union about the situation?

Does anyone know anyone from the Union? Maybe they should be contacted.
