This just in - Mr. Brocanier will have an opponent in the election

Mr Martin Partridge has filed papers for the Mayor's position in this Fall's election. More to come but the MSM will be all over it tomorrow.

Apropos  to the comment above here is NToday's Ted Amsden's story about Martin and his platform. The BurdReport spoke to Mr Partridge and got the same spin. But the punch of his message is that the Town needs to be looked at in terms of 'value for taxes' and only fresh eyes can do that. After all Mr Brocanier has had four years to make an impact on the public perception that taxes are not high and he has appeared to fail as many taxpayers still do believe that their taxes are high.

I am not sure if replacing one Liberal for another is a good idea, assuming Mr Partridge can win. I don't know Mr Brocanier's politics but I suspect it's Follower.

I would hope there is a strong slate for council of "not old white guys" next time around. We need a council that has it's eyes on the future. New blood, bring it on, and hope they have the stamina of last election's new blood.

Not sure we can place our trust in a man who files his nomination papers wearing a T shirt and shorts.

Surely tradition requires a full suit and tie get-up for any occasion of this gravity. I have it on full authority that our current mayor wears his gown and big necklace even in bed!

Martin, you must ramp up your stuffiness profile immediately if you want to win this race.

I love the idea of a mayor in shorts and a t-shirt. I have a feeling that Mr. Partridge's attire - however casual - was well thought out.

I'm sure DebO's comments are with tongue firmly planted in cheek...

As an aside, does anyone else find it is interesting that the posts regarding Port Hope have been receiving by far the most comments?

Martin has developed a fine record of taking the public side on a variety issues, as detailed in the article. His emphasis on public consultation and getting value for money in expenditures would be welcome.

For several council terms Cobourg has been making massive expenditures, and when the books are opened they may show that we have a debt problem. Martin would be the best person to handle the change of direction that may be required.

I only hope that the electorate are impressed by Martin's honesty and competence rather than being blinded by the traditionalists.

The list of accomplishments by Martin certainly impressed me, especially the squaring of Victoria Park to the main street. My vote for him on council.

Knowing his antipathy towards renegade me, I will refrain from saying anything else about him lest he be tarnished in the public eye.

I sure hope Deb's comments aren't serious too. I mean hang on "Clothes make the man" or "Judge the book by it's cover"?

We've got sharp-dressed suits coming out of our ears in this country -Guy Giorno first among them- and where the hell is all this sartorial splendour getting us?

Gimme Peter Kormos' fashion crimes any day!

Oh dear, let me rush to clarify that my comment was a (lame) joke.

I've known Martin for nearly as long as he's lived in the old Bradford house, and he's always impressed me as being both smart and sensitive, two qualities we need desperately in our mayor.

And he does dress up quite well when required, I can attest to that too.

Might even forgive him for being a liberal, I've been known to do that before.

Go Martin, you have my support for sure. Now please convince Mr. Burd to run for Council so we can have our Burd and Partridge at town hall together.

I got the joke. I thought it was funny!

what a bunch of crap - I guess you don't remember when he was against the out door skating rink (which is a huge success) when he told poor old Dorthy Hampson that he would like to kill her because she was in favour of it.

Do your homework

We can all be anonymous ! said...

"What a bunch of crap" - Are you trying to raise the tone of of this blog, Anonymous?

What do you think feisty Dorothy Hampson told Martin?

Wally Keeler said...

Anonymous slandered, "he told poor old Dorthy Hampson that he would like to kill her"

If you are aware of a threat of murderous violence then you are obligated to inform the authorities. Why didn't you? Didn't have the moral integrity to do so? Or didn't have the evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt?

Martin Partridge is one of the most polarizing figures in this community. You either love him or hate him if you know him at all.

He is hardly going to have an easy win. Good luck jumping from citizen directly to the Mayor's chair.

Sorry but anyone who doesn't know or think Martin Partridge is a polarizing figure doesn't know him at all. I mean polarizing with a capital P.

re Anon's comments
Obviously Anon has an ax to grind re Martin. Yes, Martin has strong opinions, he also has very informed opinions, which he methodically researches and forms before simply going off, a welcome change from many of the voices on Council today.

I would take the informed over the uninformed any day. At least with Martin you are able to have an intelligent conversation, based on fact, not ideology, not on the ol' boys needs, but on pure fact. Due to his style, he is not always easy to work with, but while I have had experiences where I could strangle him for being a pain in the ass, I have had just as many experiences in the past where I could not believe how he came through, supported without wavering, and was just an all around solid and good human being.

Let's take a look at the current crop of politico's at ALL levels in this area and see who else we can say these words about, certainly not Loo, Norlock is off fighting for hunting day private members bills, Kimmy is knocking on something between 3000 - 7000 doors, our Mayor is the ultimate defender of the closed door ol' boys club, along with many members of his Council.

Love him or leave him, Martin is principled, analytical and fair. Something this town could use a lot of. Let's just hope that he keeps his head on straight, that is the only element that i could see being his downfall. But, as with Martin, if he is aware of a weakness, he gets rid of it quickly.

And so it begins.

If I had any hesitation at all in exposing myself and my family to active politics, it was because of the anonymous nastiness which pervades certain segments of Cobourg society.

For the record, I categorically deny that I ever uttered any threat to kill or harm any person at any time, regarding the frink or any other matter.

who will give us an answer to the question "What does a mayor do?"

Armchair QB said...

RE Doug L's comments about replacing one Liberal with another - I believe it is open knowledge that two "top" Liberal organizers are running Mr. Brocanier's campaign organization. I believe they are the same ones who run Loo and Kim Rudd.

I tend to hold the opinion that your character is reflective of the company you keep... this would not be, in my humble view, a good reflection of the character of Mr. Brocanier to be associated with these characters!

At least with Martin Partridge, he is his own person.

"(...) when asked about how he would deal with Port Hope, he responded with a quizzical look and said enthusiastically, "I love Port Hope."

Perhaps Mr. Partridge should run there...
