The wonder of the interwebthingy is that you can stay in touch no matter where one is. We are currently in IndoChina – really the area’s name has changed so many time I can’t keep up.
But we can still see what is happening in little ole Cobourg – Sloburg no more!
- Police budget: A bit of a problem for the Mayor he wants to keep it to 4% but having no control over the budget he gets stiffed by the Chief who says he needs 20%
- Mayor’s notice of motion about not allowing Councillors to be heads of Boards and Commissions. I guess he thinks there is only room for one top dog in Town and it should be him.
- Council meetings being cancelled. Standing Committee meetings have been cancelled because of the lack of a quorum or no business to attend to. Problem is that the Regular Council meetings are now much longer than before because of the moved business. Something the ‘new and improved’ governance system was designed to avoid. I would say time to get back to the drawing board on this one.
- Drug charges being dropped. A big drug case has now vanished leaving charged people out of jail and facing high court costs. Problem is that the reason the charges were dropped is that the Police Lab that processed the seized material discovered that the suspected drugs did not contain Fentanyl. So who determined the original charges based on bad evidence?
- New planning suggestions. All kinds of goodies written into a proposal by the new ‘whizkid’ in charge of Planning, pity he has no Planning qualifications. First looks at the proposals reveal all kinds of changes designed to promote housing but in fact does nothing to define ‘affordability’ and puts the kibosh to regulations, but really gives away the store to developers.
