Election Nomination Day – Let’s see who is first in line to file! Following the Town’s instructions – “Notice is hereby given to the municipal electors of the Town of Cobourg that they may file their Nomination Paper for the 2026 Municipal Election with the Office of the Town Clerk by booking a Nomination meeting. Meetings are being held at the Municipal Clerk’s Office located at Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West in Cobourg, beginning on Friday, May 1 at 8:30 a.m. until Friday, August 21 at 2 p.m. ”  any person seeking a position on Cobourg’s Council will file forms to be in the race.

To get the nomination accepted the nominee must pay $200.00 to file as a Mayoral candidate and $100 for any other position and submit this form. In addition a form must be filed with the names and signatures of 25 qualified Citizens.

We already have a couple of declared candidates and after the info meeting last night we will have a few more. Members of Council have been polled and interviewed. In a published article in the “Northumberland News” most of Council expressed interest in running – there were no ‘pullouts’ yet. So it is safe to assume that all of the present Council will be running again.

In preparation for this election the BurdReport is assembling a special page, still being constructed, where the names, pics and a contact sheet as well as a little election blurb – less than fifty words where the candidate will tell the readers “Why I want to be on Council”. The page will be under construction and obviously will not be complete until nominations close on August 21.
