A couple of days ago I penned a post – “Why Cobourg Blogs have run out of steam” it was written after many months of not writing. This period of inaction was part of a phase that I was going through filled with cynicism and ennui (boredom with commentary). I responded to a challenge by a fellow coffee club member and I posted the current thought at the time.
Done without publicity, I normally announce a new post on my Facebook page, it just sat there with a couple of comments from subscribers – note to readers sign up to receive posts – until a regular poster on Cobourg News – Ken Strauss announced it in a Facebook group: Ben Burd has posted new and negative comments about everyone in Cobourg who is concerned that the town’s destruction by addicts, vagrants, petty criminals and “activists”. As Ben terms them: “The people who live in the past who decry the world as it has evolved.”
Well the poop flew to the fan and surprisingly enough and twelve hours later there are 33 comments in that group. Here is a screenshot of the start of the thread.
Now the problem with this comment from Ken is that it is not true, I am not ‘virtue signalling’, I did look it up because although it is a current buzzphrase I was not familiar with the definition as Ken must be, (wikipedia ref here) and I certainly do not ‘aid criminals’. But Ken as usual has extracted quotes from an original post and put them out of context to imply aspersions. Please read the full wiki ref Ken and discover the concept of ‘virtue signalling’ before you apply it to people! Wikiquote; While the expression might sometimes be sincere, it is frequently used pejoratively
Anyway the point of this post is to thank Ken Strauss for the unintended consequence of highlighting the BurdReport and to thank the people who have defended the post.
