Yesterday I posted that a new way of political thinking has to take place in the next Provincial Election if Doug Ford and his gang are to be defeated.
I must apologise if the post only seemed half finished, because it was. I was having layout problems with the blog theme and I was concentrating on that problem rather than making myself absolutely clear. The bottom line in these post is that if we do things differently in the next election we can defeat the “FordNation” (Oh how I hate that nickname).
So here’s how I would wave my magic wand to make it happen. Define the idea of only running one candidate of either the OLP or the NDP in each Riding. Secondly I would disengage the Partisans from the Pragmatists in each of the opposition Political Parties. Allow them to define the common areas of policy and lay out a Manifesto. Take that manifesto to each of the Policy Conventions of each Party – the NDP and the Ontario Liberals and hash it some more. If it fails to win the votes of the majorities then it will be obvious, in this political climate, that Doug Ford’s gang can rule for another four years – wreaking havoc with our public services and giving multi-dollar gifts to his friends.
Unfortunately this idea is a non-starter in the eyes of the Establishment, either because the Leaders and their cabals really do believe that they are the only people of delivering the promised land. But look at the dearth of recognisable people who ran to become the leaders of their parties – the NDP ran Marit Stiles unopposed and the OLP had a leadership race of unknowns. Letting these people grow into the job is time-consuming and wasteful. After all how do you defeat Doug Ford and his gang with unknowns?
Look at the Riding here in Northumberland we have a Cabinet Minister for the local MPP who hasn’t seen a camera or microphone he doesn’t embrace; like somebody kissing Taylor Swift. He even has his face stuck on a billboard sixteen feet wide on Hwy 28. Who is his opposition? Last time around we had a candidate from the NDP just nominated in the election period and a Liberal who, even though he worked his arse off (I have been told this by his friends) still couldn’t get his name out.
Now I know that even if the opposition was running only one party candidate the Doug Ford gang and Mr. Piccini would still win here – in Northumberland Peterborough South his plurality was more than all of the other candidates put together, but in close races in the Province the Opposition would prevail.
Just more of my two cents worth!
