Observations

Not much to comment on these days, Thanksgiving has come and gone and we are all thankful for many things, I had a little event that made me thankful for something we take for granted – YouTube. This website has become part of our lives and proves that nothing is unique and what ever has happened to you has happened to someone with a camera and who made a video. This week I had to clean a travel mug, mine was a disgusting mess because of my addiction to tea. Scanning the interwebthingy there were plenty of suggestions for cleaning, but the winner goes to a YouTube video that did the job within an hour with the power of an Atomic Bomb. Basically take a dishwasher pod, the type that little kids should not put in their mouths, place in the mug, pour on boiling water and wait an hour. Within seconds the gunge and crap bubbles to the tops and great chunks of crud peel off the side of the mug – Amazing! The point of this observation is to give thanks to You Tube and the Community needs it performs.

I also observed, today, that Cecilia Naismith has a story up about the recent Police Services Board Meeting – read it here – quote from the story about the recent drug arrest, “Three Cobourg men have been arrested, Chief Paul VandeGraaf reported, and the investigation is ongoing.”  Well we will see just how far the story goes, if it stops at this event/arrests then the operation will be a failure in the big scheme of things.

Big news as well from that Board Meeting – the Chief of Police will be hosting another Town Hall on November 7th at 6.30pm at the Lions Hall in Cobourg. This meeting might be a little harder to control than the last where the Chief acknowledged “that events in the Town were scaring people, but rest assured it is all in your mind because serious crime stats were going down.” That message was not well received by the audience. It will be interesting to see just how the new message from the Chief will go down in the light of the this year’s events. But good on the Chief for being willing to face the Citizens once again.

Observed as well, was the letter to the Editor on Cobourg News from Councillor Miriam Mutton about the discussion on the motion from the Mayor about writing a letter to the Cobourg Police Services Board asking them to enter into discussions about a Regional Police Service, read it here. Cut short; the letter informs us all that the request from the Mayor and a divided Council – two Councillors voted against the motion, may be premature in light of the information that the Cobourg Police Service has entered into discussions about a larger regional collaboration with three other Services (Peterboroug, Kawartha Lakes and Port Hope. The interesting thing about this topic – regional collaboration, is that the discussion of the discussions has now been picked up by Council watchers in Port Hope. They are wondering if Council and the PHPS has the mandate to enter into discussions. Talk about the local Police being the ‘third rail’ of local politics!
